Gun Director Mark 51, Mod. 3 Operator's Manual

The Ordinance Pamphlet 1119 contains descriptive information on the installation, operation and maintenance of the Gun Director Mark 51 Mod. 3. The Mark 51 was a ship gun fire-control systems (GFCS). GFCS are fire-control systems to enable remote and automatic targeting of guns against surface ships, aircraft, and shore targets, with either optical or radar sighting.

The publication of this Operator's Manual was intended for use by personnel responsible for the care and operation of the Gun Director Mark 51 Mod 3. However, the information in this pamphlet was only preliminary, it was intended to be revised as necessary in the final Ordinance Pamphlet.

The Gun Director Mark 51 Mod. 3 was a new model of its previous Gun Director Mark 51 Mod. 2. The Mod. 3 is specifically adapted for use with the Gun Sight Mark 15 Mods. 2 and 3. What was new about the Mod. 3 was that it came with a new dual model air supply pump and Wind Transmitter Mark 4. When the Wind Transmitter Mark 4 and Gun Sight Mark 15 were used with Gun Director Mark 51. Mod 3, they would compute train and elevation wind corrections but would not include rand wind corrections.
